Is paying off your mistress a campaign expense?

Over the past few days I have been following the John Edwards trial and I am just so incredibly disgusted. Here is a man that was running for President and he did not even have enough self control to keep it in his pants! It just amazes me!

This man believed he should be the President of the United States of America. The head of state, head of government, leader of the executive branch of the federal government and the commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces. What does he do?

He has an affair while his wife is battling stage IV breast cancer, gets the woman pregnant then has his campaign aide Andrew Young claim paternity of the child. When Cheri Young (wife of Andrew Young) took the stand attorney Alan Duncan asked her, "You're interested in getting Mr. Edwards, aren't you?"

She replied,  "Sir, I'm here to tell the truth about my experiences, about my life. It was a lie when we accepted paternity for your client, and that is why we are here today."

So my question is what the heck does it matter if she is "interested in getting Mr. Edwards". Wouldn't you be? Here you are just living your life and your hubby comes home to tell you that he is going to be claiming paternity of a child that really isn't his with a woman he really did not have a relationship with and overnight your life is turned upside down.

During the time he was having his mistress paid off you have to wonder what that conversation was like in their little budget meeting. "Mr. Edwards should we use this $1 million for another aggressive marketing campaign or should we start to funnel it to your mistress and the family hiding her to keep them quiet?"

Mistress it is then!
